How We Roll on Sundays!

What do you do when your bored on a Sunday afternoon?  Take some pictures of course...what else?  Cameron and I had this big idea to take some dressy portraits on this particular Sunday, but decided very quickly not to.  It was one of those days that you reeeally didn't want to get all fancied up, but wanted to go do something fun and free.

For awhile now, whenever I drive through downtown Denham Springs, theres a painted wall there that catches my eye every time I pass.  I've BEEN wanting to get a photo of Cameron under this huge arrow and that has the word "Funky"...and that so describes my little darling of a daughter.  She needs a sign over her head that reads, "Funky Fresh"!  LOL!  There is also this gigantic painted sun as well that would make a cute photo.  So you know what?  I got her little butt out there (with a little pushing) and we snapped a few shots.

As we were walking to the car, we stopped by the Old City Hall and snapped few more...

That arrow is pointing right at someone who's "Fun, Funky, & Unique"!

Hold on to that sun girl....eeerrrr-aaahhhhh

My fav from this day :-)

So, my daughter likes to take photos too...and here's one she snapped today:

I was headed toward the camera as she's steadily shooting...kinda liked the composition, but not my smile wrinkles :-/

A Weekend Read: 'Death by Bikini'

It's the beginning of a lazy Saturday morning and the opening of a good book to let you know it's the weekend and there's no school!  YAY!!  Here's my Saturday morning view...

No complaints from this proud mommy :-)

R.O.D.S. Car Show

***Be sure to scroll down to view the photo gallery***

It's the weekend and the sun's out and the weather couldn't be better.  So what do we have planned...a car show that my father-in-law entered.  He entered his 1938 Chevy Coupe in the R.O.D.S. (Ramblin Oldies of Denham Springs) car show in Baton Rouge.  His 1st ever!  Him and my husband have been planning for this for about a week now and they just couldn't wait to roll that beautiful car downtown.  They were both up pretty darn early wiping it down and making it all spark-lie.  Cleaning the windows and shining up the engine.  Cause you know men and their cars, it's not just the outside their looking at it's the whole sha-bang, inside and out!  I guess around noon time, me, Cameron, and my mother-in-law headed to Baton Rouge to see what all the fuss was about.  When we got off I-12 at Airline, all we could see to the left of our eyes was the shining of red, yellow, purple, and every color you could think of beaming in the sunlight.  Once we found our parking spot, I grabbed my camera and made Cameron take the camcorder.  We headed off into vintage car heaven!  Since I've really never been to a car show before, this was going to be an experience.

My Roy getting the Chevy cleaned up before the big show!

I can say, we all had a GREAT time.  They had music, food, and free popcorn!  The men certainly enjoyed themselves with the sites and many conversations with other guys that were just as interested in the cars as they were.  Walking around and checking out all the different types of cars and hot rod's was like living back in the 1950's, it was pretty cool!  And of course I snapped away and took over 100 photo's that day.  We still have one more day to enjoy the cars since Sunday will be the big judging day where they hand out prizes and awards...I think?  Well, we'll just have to wait and see...but that's a whole other post!

I had to get a snap-shot of Cameron next to the baby pink car!

Self Portrait

Yep, that's right...I'm into self portraits now!  Nah, not really.  Just thought you might want to see who's behind the camera.

Cameron + Mud = WOW!

Never would have thought that a play date with Cameron and her friend would have produced this photo.  Here I am, protecting my camera from water and mud, trying to snap some shots of them playing.  You know, capturing child hood moments...and while Cameron was collecting more mud for the mud pies, I snapped this one and loved, loved, loved it.  I didn't know what I had until I uploaded that night.  This photo has no editing, but the way the sun was shining on the funky, muddy, water, made this photo turn out amazing.  It also shows that childish moment in Cameron's life that I will always remember....even when she becomes an ole mean teenager.  I can look back at the innocence of this photo and remember that making mud pies, playing in the sprinkler, and laughing with friends wasn't so bad.

Catching Some Steam

Sitting outside on the back porch, it's about 65 degrees, reading a good book, and drinking some Community coffee....now who wouldn't think catching this kind of steam isn't a good thing?

Flowers

Here are 2 shots of some flowers in my mother-in-law's yard that turned out pretty darn fancy!

Daniel's Photo Session

Introducing Daniel, my very 1st head-shot model.  I decided to take him to the levee downtown to capture, what I thought, would be excellent photos.  Well, uummmm, I think I did pretty good, don't you think?

Here are some samples:

This shot has story too!  We met at a Chili's restaurant since he worked at one and didn't really know his way around Baton Rouge.  Like I do...and I've lived here all my life, LOL!  As I was waiting, I took my camera, and went scouting for photo op spots around the parking lot.  The light outside was great and I just thought, "Why not"?  So walking around Chili's, and around an abandoned parking lot next door, then to the back of a hotel, I found this spot. So, when he shows up, I take him behind a hotel, in the parking lot where the garbage dumpsters are and captured this of a doozie head-shot.  He's laying on the asphalt, arms leaning on the curb and the greenery is growing up against the fence separating the hotel parking lot from another business.  What a great sport he was listening to me!

Daniel was great to work with and so easy going.  Luckily I had some help from a mutual friend, plus she was the one to refer me since she knew I dabbled in photography.  This kid, I'll call him kid since he was only in his early 20's, had done some modeling before.  As you can tell he looks like an Abercrombie & Fitch kinda guy.  We walked all over downtown, laughing, posing, talking, posing, joking, and MORE POSING!  We spent about 2 hours down there and had a blast.  By the end of the evening, I was sweating and hoping I captured great shots, and he was a doll.

The last photo on my post of him is my favorite.  It's right next to the Miss. River by the large concrete steps and the sun had already set.  The street lights were on and I had just enough natural light and light from my flash to make this photo happen.  I think this would look great outside Abercrombie & Fitch, don't you?

Thanks Daniel for being such a great model!

Wax Family Session

Get this, I'm outside my new home, that's in construction, and someone pulls up in their black Volkswagen waving me down.  I'm off work this day due to a school Holiday and I'm not looking all that great.  A pretty blonde haired lady rolls down her window and I say to myself, "Hey, I now this chick"!  It's Marie, who I used to see about once week when I worked at the doctor's office.  She's a Pharmaceutical Rep and she asking about me and photography.  Her and her husband lived right down the road.  She noticed one weekend when I was at a Denham Spring Festival, that I was carrying around my camera and snapping pics.  She asked if I did that for a living and I told her yes, but just on the side of my full time job.  Well, we chatted a minute or two and she told me she would be interested in my taking some Christmas photos of her, her husband, and her babies, well....dogs!  I was like heck yeah, I'll do it!

I called her later that day and we scheduled a day and I shot the session at a local DS park.  We spent about 2 hours there laughing and chatting it up.  The dogs did great and were very well behaved.  The white dog is completely deaf and his name is Wesson.  The other gorgeous dog is Smith Ann and she's a spit fire!  Get it, Smith and Wesson?  LOL!

They were wonderful to work with and can't wait to do it again!

You should have seen their Christmas card...it turned out so darn cute!  I gave myself a big old pat on the back!  That's another post though....

Achord Photo Session

Introducing my bestest friend ever and her beautiful girls, Mrs. Tonya and her daughters, (from left to right) Haleigh, Callie, and Lauren.  I captured these photos last year and haven't had a chance to post them on my blog.  Since I've begun getting more serious with photography, I have great friends that let me snap photo's of them when possible.  We took these photos at Lauren Cohn Arboretum in Baker.  I think is was around springtime and the weather was gorgeous.  I do recall rain the day before or the grass was a bit wet when we got there.  I believe we were all there pretty early to be the bright sunlight in the afternoon.  We walked around for about an hour or so and then we headed off to grab some lunch.

The day I spent with Tonya and her girls were filled with laughter and joy.  They are the sweetest family and I'm always honored when asked to take some family pics.  I think they turned out great and hope you think the same.

...and here's one of me and Tonya...we never get photo's together.  It's always everybody else, but I made Cameron take this one for us.
